God’s Word is always a formidable message. It should
raise feelings of awe in a human. But one message that came to earth two
thousand years ago is the best ever given by God. This message arrived in the
form of one baby boy. It was by far the most unusual message ever received in
our world. How can we describe the message that will save many humans from
eternal torment by paying for their sin? … Baby Jesus was not a newly created
Spirit but the life-force that has existed forever. The Bible says: The Word
was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1 (NLT). We can understand
that the Son of God had come to earth and taken on this small human flesh like
a new suit of clothing. He would grow-up down here on earth and spend his human
life delivering the message that God wants to save the sinful people in this
world.
Our triune God never had a beginning. But when His Son came to earth he had
become the message that had the power to save people. Now the Almighty has
added a new characteristic to his existence and his saving grace does have a
beginning. Taking on human form has changed the Son forever. He did this
because he can. After a 33 year life on earth, Jesus told his friends: Yes,
I came from the Father into the
world, and now I will leave the world and return to the Father.” John 16:28. The
author of life itself came to redeem his creation from the destruction caused
by the evil-being called Satan. The message or “Word of God” is something that
no person could have ever conceived. This tells us how much God loves human
beings. We were created by the Word and it is actually very natural to believe
that he can save us.
Creation was perfect and God was pleased with it. However, the evil Satan
misled the first humans and caused them to disobey their Creator. This is the
reason God’s saving Word had to come and live with us on earth. Paul wrote a
beautiful passage explaining the one who created us. He said: Christ
is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was
created and is supreme over all creation, for through him (the
Son) God
created everything in the
heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we
can’t see—Colossians 1:15-16. The Son was the only one who could bring
the salvation plan to earth. This was kept a secret from Satan and when he foolishly
had Jesus killed he thought it was a win over God. The fact is that this was
the exact thing that would allow Jesus Christ to have victory over Satan and
become our path of salvation.
Believing (be-living) in the Word of God is the only activity that any
person can use to gain eternal value in their life. Our only chance is to
believe in God’s Word. Sadly most intellectuals have a difficult time with the
concept of faith. Much of the Gospel message seems unreasonable to the normal human
intellect. We must learn about faith: Faith is the confidence that what we
hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see… by faith we understand that the entire
universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from
anything that can be seen. Hebrews
11:1-3. Although worldly men cannot completely explain
where anything came from, they refuse to admit that God simply spoke “the Word”
that brought both us and our world into existence. Personally I love the fact
that our God is so far above us that we must come to Him in faith.
Some people will admit they have never head the living Word of our
Creator. Obviously they have not invited Jesus to rule over their life. This
simply means that the Spirit of the Savior is not living inside of them. God
communicates with his people all the time. Everything that God says today is
spoken by the Spirit of his Son. The Bible tells us: Long
ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the
prophets. And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. Hebrews 1:1-2. The
Spirit of Jesus lives inside of every true Christian. The bonding of our
spirits is the most wonderful miracle that can ever happen to a human. This
makes it possible for us to leave this temporary world and to go live in the
eternal world that God has prepared for his new redeemed family.
The Apostle John was very close to Jesus here on earth and he told us: We
proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have heard and
seen. We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands. He is the Word of life. 1 John 1:1. God had spoken
a Word and the world was created and today he sends his Son to be the Word that
can save us from the penalty of our sin. John knew that Jesus had come to be
the Word of God and that he would provide the possibility of our life in
eternity. Even people looking for salvation were amazed when: the
Word became human and made his home
among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen
his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son. John 1:14. Yes, people at the time were overwhelmed when they
met Jesus. What would it have been like to shake the hand of the Savior who is
the powerful Word of God?
This grand redemption plan given by God has never been accepted by
everyone. We are told: He
came into the very world he created, but the
world didn’t recognize him. John
1:10. People are
very complex creatures and some have great reasoning powers. Unfortunately many
people have used their natural reasoning to convince themselves that the plan
of God is just too much for them to accept. They fail to believe the truth that
God’s Word not only created them, but that now “his Word” has come to save us from
our sin. This amazing plan is being told to the whole world at this time and we
are privileged to tell it to others. We understand that each individual person
must learn to believe in the Word for themselves.
